| The following review is by Don Burns, and was written for the Wootown Brewers. Comments abound about software - If you have not checked out ProMash - please do yourself a favor and take a look - it was written by a brewer for brewers - all calcs are there, in both a standalone format as well as integrated into a recipe building session. All hops are there with graphs showing how long the alpha acid lasts under different types of storage - room temp, refrig, freezer, etc. Mash schedules are there that I have double checked against my own calculations and they matched within 1 tenth of a degree (how much water of what temp does it take to raise 8 gallons of 130 degree water containing 30 lbs of grain to 152 degrees? My calc and actual results matched ProMash's to the T!) - not to mention the water profiler - pick a style and it lets you add and subtract common ingredients to match that specific water) - plus tons - I mean TONS of other cool stuff, like printing labels for competition - the brewing session is killer too - start to brew, follow your ingredient list, mash steps and enter your notes to fine tune your brewing process - Jeff Donovan has done one hell of a great job making this the most awesome brewing software on the planet - do your self a favor and check it out - plus - what's $25 in the grand scheme of our hobby? another carboy? A few bags of malt? Until ProMash came along (and it was recommended to me by Jim Wagner, homebrewer turned professional who brews for Du Claw in Bel Air Md - and also recommended the oxygen - he makes awesome beer I might add) I had recipes on various paper pads, in the back of books and spent lots of wasted time looking for them when I wanted to duplicate a great one - now they are all in one place with lots of cool info about each session - very very nice!! FYI - I am in no way associated or affiliated or related to Jeff Donovan or ProMash software. I am a computer software designer by profession and have been doing so for the past 25 years (geez, has it been that long?) I began writing a system to make calcs, keep track of things and assist me in brewing. When I saw ProMash I immediately began comparing it to my own - everything I had come up with was already in ProMash - no kidding - I am a firm believer in NOT re-inventing the wheel so I stopped my efforts, checked out ProMash and within 1 hour was on the phone ordering my copy. For the quality of the product, the completeness and functionality - $25 is one incredible bargin. |
