{short description of image}
Version 1.7.a Upgrade
Posted 1-17-2002

Yeast Additions
  1. 14 new White Labs Yeast Strains.
  2. 6 new DCL Yeast Strains.
  3. 20 new Yeast Lab Yeast Strains.
  4. 46 new Yeast Culture Kit Company (YCKC) Yeast Strains.
New Features and Enhancements:

  1. Column Sorting Lists!

The single most requested ProMash feature has now been implemented! All List boxes in ingredients databases, recipe dialog lists and brewing session lists can now be sorted by any element in the list, in both ascending and descending order.

Simply go into any database and note the new buttons (as opposed to text) on the top of the list. Click on any button to have the list sorted in ascending order for that item. Click on it again and it will sort in descending order, etc.

Note also that the Grain, Hop and Extra lists within recipes and brewing sessions can also be sorted in the same fashion.

Printing now is based on the sort chosen and is 500% faster than the old list printing method, no longer scrolling down the box getting sorted items.

  2. Boil Off Calculator and Dilution Calculator now use a more accurate formula and conforms to ASBC guidelines.

  3. You can now specify any Hop within a recipe as being used in Mash Hopping. As with First Wort Hopping the user is free to set what they feel is the correct increase/decrease of Mash Hop utilization within the System Settings, Hop section. To denote a hop as a mash hop, simply raise the boil time to be greater than a First Wort Hop within the recipe's hop list.

  4. There is a new DME (Dry Malt Extract) Scalar value within the System Settings, Printer And Miscellaneous Settings dialog. The scalar was implemented to accommodate brewers who raised concerns about carbonating with DME, in that ProMash had a fixed scaler value of 2.0 applied to Corn Sugar amounts for carbonation. This new scalar will allow brewers who have specific fermentable information about their DME to more accurately calculate carbonation values when priming with DME. Note that this is actually a temporary implementation as we do plan to re-write the Carbonation Calculator to pull carbonation values from any source (including wort with specific gravities) in the near future.

UI Modification:

  1. The Dilution calculator has been enhanced to provide more intuitive functionality with it's two imbedded calculators.

Bug Fixes:
  1. Within the stand-alone Boil-Off calculator, if you had chosen to calculate by evaporation rate, the calculator would error and still produce results based on the Amount of Wort Evaporated entry. This has been fixed and the calculator now applies the evaporation rate, from the evaporation rate calculator found in the same dialog.

  2. Within the Hop Time Loss Graphing function, if you choose to print the graph, then came back to the screen chart and re-entered any number, the program would crash. This has been fixed.

  3. Previous version of ProMash would not correctly display files with extra "periods" in the filename. For instance, the file name "myrecipe.rec" would be shown properly, but "my.recipe.rec" would not be. You can now have up to 2 extra periods within the filename, as in "my.test.recipe". You will also be warned about saving files with more than 2 periods in the filename. The problem is caused by the mechanism in which Windows filters file extensions.

  4. In Addition to filenames with additional periods in the filename, previous versions of ProMash would allow saving filenames with illegal characters. Users would assume the file was saved correctly but users could never find it again in the saved locations. These illegal characters are / \ : and the * character. ProMash will now warn you of such characters and ask that you remove them.

  5. Within a Brewing Session, Fermentation Specifics, using the Hydrometer Correction functions for OG and FG would in certain circumstances return erroneous results. This problem has been fixed.

  6. Within the mash designer, or complex mash schedule in recipes/brewing sessions, you cannot change the first step of the mash to be "Direct" heat, as the first step of any mash is always infusion.

However, if you had a second step that was direct heat, then choose to "Delete" the 1'st step, the previous second step becomes the first, but would be incorrectly displayed as Direct Heat, no infusion calculation was performed, and the setting could not be changed to infusion. This has been fixed and in fact even mash schedules saved this way should now work properly.

  7. Within a Brewing Session, Water Profile, Water Graph, the correct CA content was not updated in the graphs when target waters were changed, but left at what the Maximum Value previously was set to (if higher). This has been fixed. Note the problem did not exist within the stand-alone water profiler.

  8. A multitude of other trivial minor bugs.
