The bottom of the case bears 2 adhesive stickers, applied when the unit was calibrated. Below is a word for word translation of the last application.

enclosed in this case and
it agrees with our Kew
Certified Standards. To keep
it in this state of adjustment
for the longest possible time,
the following points should be
observed: Carefully wipe the
instrument on a soft pref-
erably silk cloth, after use.
Don't use pressure. Don't
replace in case whilst wet.
In the event of Thermometer
being broken in the case, re-
move instrument from it and
don't replace it therein, until
case has been relined. Don't
leave thermometer in case
when forwarding by carrier,
pack same seperately.

The sticker visible now actually covers up an older one. While it appears to be a duplicate (from an earlier time), not the one small difference in the address, where this is 58 Hatton Garden and the later is 57 Hatton Garden.

The Slide Rule

The Slide Rule has 2 distinct reading types on either side of the rule. This particular rule is in great condition, every portion readable, but fairly sticky.

The Weights

The complete weight set with the top cap, and nine numbered weights labelled 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90. - All weights bear the original 16601 serial number.

The Float

The shaft is marked with 10 main increments ranging from 0 to 10, with 4 side markers between each main marker, for a 0.2 accuracy between marks. Every mark is readable.

The bottom shaft contains the Hydrometer's serial number stamp of 16601.

Note that the top shaft of this particular hydrometer, on the thin side, is also stamped with the calibrator's name. Click on either image to see a large, full detail picture.




The Thermometer

The thermometer measures degrees Fahrenheit from 25 degrees to 105 degrees. This is a mercury thermometer, with an ivory back.

This thermometer is in working condition and at the time the scan was taken, if you look close enough at the detail picture you can see it is reading 74 degrees.
