There are 3 distinct types (variations) of the Sikes hydrometer. While there are minor variations of each in existence, these three major categories are the most common: Type I: The Standard Sikes.
The most common type of Sikes Hydrometer. Kit includes 1 thermometer, 1 float, 10 weights and 1 case. Type II: The Deluxe Sikes.
The deluxe Sikes Hydrometer. This differs from the standard model in that it includes a slide rule, and on rarer models 2 slide rules are included. The slide rules are made of Boxwood or Ivory. Kit includes 1 thermometer, 1 float, Slide Rule(s) (for temperature correction of readings), 10 weights and 1 case. Type III: The Miniature Sikes.
The Miniature Sikes Hydrometer, or 'Pocket' Hydrometer. This is the rarest of all Sikes Hydrometers, and was manufactured by Farrow & Jackson. It it nearly 1/2 scale of the standard Sikes. Kit includes 1 thermometer (missing from the set pictured), 1 float, 1 Measuring Flask (not found in the larger Sikes), 10 weights and 1 case. Back to Index |
